Jim Woodhead

Jim has over 30 years of ‘hands on' tax investigation experience which includes 10 years working and managing tax investigation cases at local level. He was a District Inspector in Liverpool plus he has 14 years Special Compliance Office experience gained in Liverpool and Edinburgh (11 as Group Leader). He has personally been involved with in excess of 750 SCO cases including some where criminal proceedings have been considered or implemented.

Jim also has 10 years experience as the Head of HMRC Direct Taxes Compliance Learning Team. He worked in partnership with the HMRC Compliance Strategy specialists to devise and deliver the learning intended to develop the compliance skills of Inspectors. This includes technical and investigation knowledge and the application of that knowledge to working compliance cases on a day to day basis.
Jim has undertaken compliance training assignments overseas on behalf of HMRC for Greece, Republic of Ireland and the Isle of Man / Channel Islands. He also delivered Fraud Awareness courses for the Scottish Police College and delivered Compliance Overview courses for the accountancy profession.
 
Since leaving HMRC in 2007 Jim has practiced as a tax investigation consultant based in Edinburgh. He has dealt with a wide range of investigation cases including cases handled by the Specialist Investigations and Civil Investigation of Fraud Offices of HMRC.
 
Jim has also assisted the Institute of Chartered Accounts for Scotland to deliver a training course for their members on the new information and penalty powers.
